Refrigerant appliances: special requirements
Fridges and freezers contain refrigerants and insulating foams that must not be released into the air. Before a unit can be scrapped, the refrigerant has to be recovered by a qualified technician. That's why these appliances can't simply go out with the garbage, and why disposal facilities treat them separately.
We take every fridge and freezer to facilities that handle refrigerant recovery, then the metal shell goes on to recycling.

Do I need to defrost the freezer first?
It helps. Unplugging a day ahead reduces water leaks. If you can't, let us know and we'll bring towels.
Can you take a fridge that still has food in it?
Please empty it first. Food can spoil in the truck and create a mess in your home as we carry it out.
Why can't fridges go out with regular garbage?
They contain refrigerants that need to be recovered before the unit is scrapped. We make sure that happens.
Can you get a chest freezer out of a basement?
Yes. Chest freezers are heavy and awkward, but we bring the right equipment for stairs.
Will you take a mini fridge from a condo?
Yes. Small units are easy to add to any pickup, including condo move-outs.
